I have personally-strong views about this topic, being English. When Glenn Beck spoke the truth, the White House was uncomfortable. When Glenn Beck spoke race, Obama minions pulled out their card and sprang into action. A group called the Color of Change, a group associated with Van Jones, the current green czar, the self proclaimed “rowdy national and communist” is behind the boycott. This group is turning the screws on advertisers on Beck’s program, and many have dropped their advertising.
Well, success, right? Not so fast. Since the attack on free speech boycott, the ratings for Beck’s show have skyrocketed. Yes, skyrocketed. In addition, some of these advertisers have pulled their ads from the left leaning competition.
I said earlier that Van Jones is, or was associated with the Color of Change. The reason that description was so murky is that these groups tend to form, then fall apart or morph into a new group, or even congeal with several other groups so tracking the origins of the group and who founded or co-founded can be difficult. Van Jones had a hand in the formation of this group. He now has the ear of Barack Obama. Van Jones is a communist. His words. Van Jones is a radical. And Van Jones is certainly not the only radical in the Obama administration. More on that is coming.
This issue isn’t about race. Certainly Barack Obama can’t have a problem with it or he would have walked out on Jeremiah Wright 20 years ago. He at the very least doesn’t have a problem with the concept. This is a concerted effort to silence free speech. Beck is laying out the Obama agenda and all its radicals player daily. He’s painting an easy to understand big picture. That’s what this is all about. We bloggers talk about the details (which are extremely important), but Beck is piecing those details together in a portrait of the big agenda. We need the details, but we also need someone to put together the puzzle from hell. That’s where Beck comes in. Color of Change (or whoever is currently winding their clock) want to shut him-and us down. Their mistake is that they think we need Glenn Beck. We don’t. We want Glenn Beck. The first amendment will live on with or without him. But if they get to him, and if they are successful in silencing him, you can be sure they will eventually get to you.
Don’t stand for it. It’s very easy to get a list of advertisers that have pulled out of Beck’s program, and a list of those that have stayed-or just signed on. You have the power to buy. Who do you want to support with your dollars? Companies that don’t mind hearing the truth, or companies complicit in the stifling of free speech? Your call, your money.

1) Private insurers have almost a monopoly on employer plans, so there is now no competiton on price and service. Risk pools are regional, so inter-state private insurance will not change this. Federal jurisdiction does not extend to regulation of insurance policies written within States, but it does extend to plans receiving Federal funds. That is why we need a public option – so that Federally funded plans can offer features private insurers do not now offer, forcing all private insurers to compete on price and service (ignoring pre-existing conditions, eliminating “exclusions”, etc.)
2) 30% of current costs are accrued at municipal hospitals providing routine care for the uninsured in emergency rooms for ten times the cost of routine care in clinics and doctor’s offices. Providing Federal coverage for anyone, no questions asked, for routine care would allow these people to get care for one tenth what it costs now. A 90% reduction in 30% of costs saves 27% of current costs. That is the “indeterminate” savings from covering everybody, at Federal expense, at a cost of 1.4 trillion dollars over ten years. That is how expanding coverage could actually save money and lower overall costs.
3) 80% of lifetime expenses are accrued in the last six months of life for intensive care while dying. Absent clear instructions from the patient, medical ethics and current law require that no expense be spared to prolong life, at least unitl the $1 million lifetime insurance coverage is exhausted. Every patient who elects not to have intensive care while dying saves the system $500,000, $400,000 in insurance payments and $100,000 in copayments from the family of the patient. The cost of covering a living will conference is $100. Net savings is $499,900 per patient who makes a living will refusing intensive care while dying. Absent living wills, the 40 million Baby Boomers will incur $20 trillion in intensive care costs while dying over the next 25 years.
4) After end-of-life and routine care in ER, the next biggest cost item is 15% of current costs due to lack of proper medical information. These costs involve 98,000 excess deaths annually, duplicate diagnostic testing and imaging, and the care required to recover from mistakes in dosage and treatment. The existence of complete, accessible, lifetime electronic health records, such as now exist in the VA system, will eliminate this 15% of costs.
Bottom line = without a public option, it will not be reform. without mandatory living will coverage, it will not be reform. with electronic health records, the living will savings will not accrue because the doctor at the hospital will not know you have one, and it will not be reform. Costs can be nine times the CBO estimate and will still be half the $20 trillion that no reform will cost. Savings potential for living wills and guaranteed routine care for everyone are more than half of what we spend now.
5) Current costs of about $16 trillion annually amount to $8,000+ per capita. Results rank between 20th and 37th worldwide. The “best” results worldwide are achieved in France, which has a “public” option but not “national health.” Costs there are 30% lower than ours per capita, and private insurers continue to make profits, although not as huge as they do in the USA.
The only losers if the proposed reforms pass are the private insurers, who now reap most of the benefits of this system that lets 20,000 people a year die for lack of coverage and costs half again as much as the next most expensive national system in the world. ~~~

I don’t get the feeling that it is possible to falsify these beliefs–indeed, the rage that confronts me when I attempt the fairly anodyne task of showing that law-abiding gun owners almost never turn criminal, suggests a very considerable emotional investment in them.
This shouldn’t be difficult. Even the White House is happy to let people carry firearms — in compliance with local law, of course — near town hall meetings. I’d have thought that would settle it: when the President’s security staff say “Hey, this isn’t a big deal; shut up and let us focus on more pressing matters”, perhaps those of us who purport to have the President’s security in mind should at least consider what they have to say, hmm?

I simply will not reply to challenges that do not address this question. Refutability is one of the classic determinants of whether a theory can be called scientific. Moreover, I have found it to be a great general-purpose cut-through-the-crap question to determine whether somebody is interested in serious intellectual inquiry or just playing mind games. Note, by the way, that I am assuming the burden of proof here – all you have to do is commit to a criterion for testing. It’s easy to criticize science for being “closed-minded”. Are you open-minded enough to consider whether your ideas might be wrong?

“…Senator Obama was nearly 17 minutes into his July 2 speech (yet another one where naming Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was required) in Colorado Springs, Colorado when he deviated from his pre-released script and performed without the teleprompter net saying,
“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” (emphasis added)
The immediate context for that amazing statement was a preview of parts of his plan to vastly expand community service opportunities for Americans of nearly all ages. He said,
“People of all ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve.”
The range of his community service initiatives was outlined in an earlier American Thinker article. In his campaign document entitled “The Blueprint for Change: Barack Obama’s Plan For America,” Obama’s “Service” section runs a close second to “Education” in complexity. But, with his Colorado Springs’ statement, it grabbed first place in its projected costs to taxpayers. Obama did the cost projection himself.
He plans to double the Peace Corps’ budget by 2011, and expand AmeriCorps, USA Freedom Corps, VISTA, YouthBuild Program, and the Senior Corps. Plus, he proposes to form a Classroom Corps, Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, Veterans Corps, Homeland Security Corps, Global Energy Corps, and a Green Jobs Corps. Here a corps – there a corps – everywhere a corps corps.
So it made sense in Colorado Springs when he said his call to community service “will be a central cause of my presidency.” He couldn’t be clearer in signaling his intentions, including a Social Investment Fund Network to link local non-profits with the federal government. …”

This refers to a large entrée section, historically known by some of its most favorite dishes like AmeriCorps, VISTA and the Senior Corps. Since 1994, total budget appropriations (in 2007 dollars) add up to $12.6 billion, averaging $900 million per year. The CNCS annual budget has been declining since 2004. But Obama plans to triple the scope of the CNCS’s most popular dish — AmeriCorps – from 75,000 “slots” (participants involved) to 250,000. Factor in a proportionate increase ($750 million) added to AmeriCorps funding allocated within the CNCS 2008 budget of $856 million, and the new CNCS budget in an Obama administration could double to about $1.6 billion. But wait, there’s more to add to that budget.
There are five new entrées planned for the CNCS: Classroom Corps where people can volunteer to help in “high-need and underserved schools;” Health Corps, where volunteers are “trained to assist health professionals;” Clean Energy Corps, where volunteers can “promote energy independence through efforts like weatherization, renewable energy projects and educational outreach;” Veterans Corps, where veterans are recruited to serve veterans in VA facilities, nursing homes, and homeless shelters; and the Homeland Security Corps “to help communities plan, prepare for and respond to emergencies.” How much do they cost? …”

Personally, I’d not have come in via the Trafford route: too many water obstacles, and stuff like that, and you’d have had to take Liverpool first although they’d probably just let you in and the minidressed scousettes would just ride along on your tanks.
If Manchester was what you needed, then much better to seize the heights south and southeast round Stockport and Hazelgrove, possibly using airborne assault with portable artillery and mortars, plus the ring of hills from Bolton, Bury and Rochdale. To do both, too, you could just drive up the M6.
Then you have the entire city at your mercy from bombardment. Forget the “urban guerrillas” – too busy watching the telly. And from there you could just starve the place out.
